On becoming bishop, Father Lavigerie took the motto "Caritas" and as his episcopal coat of arms, a pelican. The Pelican is a bird which feeds its young with its own blood. His life illustrated the motto and coat of arms he had chosen. Arriving in Algiers, he addressed the Muslim Algerians: "I claim the privilege of loving you like sons " At the bishop's house he welcomed orphans and he founded two missionary societies to help them - the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) and the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa (White Sisters). He required from their members the same compassion that he himself had towards the Africans. "For our love to bear fruit, we must see Our Lord Himself in the patients we care for and in those touched by our charity and our patience"(Lavigerie).

Our mission
Our responsibilities Evangelism for the Africans
to know Jesus Christ and teach him. The most important things in our
responsibilities Our family born in Africa, members of the missionaries, the
apostles of God and Jesus Christ is the basis of our lives. We live in a
prayer, and the works of love, we are called to do God's work to people in
Africa. We are as female as others but our responsibility and developing the
African Community. We are also sent by the Word of God from different countries
by Africa and in different cultures. In that separation, we show love of Jesus
Christ in us, and unlimited love. We are close to them, we are sent to work
with them, studying their tongue, respect the culture and their beliefs. We
strive to be with them well and better understand what is useful to you and
promote them.
